In questo Mercoledì delle Ceneri, gli U2 hanno spiazzato il mondo pubblicando “Days of Ash”, un EP di 6 tracce che funge da “istantanea” del nostro tempo. Non si tratta di un’anticipazione del disco previsto per fine 2026, ma di un progetto urgente, definito da Bono come un insieme di “canzoni di sfida e di sgomento”.

L’analisi: Il brano d’apertura è un pugno nello stomaco. Dedicato a Renee Nicole Macklin Good (vittima di una sparatoria a Minneapolis), il testo affronta il trauma della violenza negli Stati Uniti. Bono mette in discussione il concetto di “terrorismo”, ribaltando la narrativa e chiedendosi come Dio possa permettere che un cuore si spezzi. 2. The Tears Of Things
L’analisi: Qui la band si sposta su un piano filosofico e letterario. Il titolo richiama Virgilio (Sunt lacrimae rerum). Gli U2 esplorano la “sofferenza degli oggetti” e dei luoghi che sopravvivono alle persone che li hanno abitati.
